The Charlie Sheen Meme Machine broke last night

3.6.11: On paper, the decision for Charlie Sheen to do a UStream webcast that involved Simon Rex playing cheesy sound effects on a laptop in the background sure seems like a 'great' idea, or at least an idea nimbly in tune with the insanity that has been the the Charlie Sheen Meme Machine. But oh lord did THIS ever fail miserably (don't click on that link). Much like how everyone has been making too big a deal every time the Knicks lose to the Cavs (although, about that: "REALLY?! Really, Kincks?"[via SNL]), I think we will look back on this week and say, "Fun week. Important in that we not only got some cool ass memes that helped pass the time at our life-sucking day jobs, but we also got to look at media/the process of media in a different light. Thanks, Charlie, but in the end you turned out to be just another self-destructing, moderately talented, over-privileged celebrity jerk." Newsflash, @charliesheen has not changed the 'meme game'. He might still end up becoming a Meme of Memes but not with performances like last night. He is not Bieber. He 'gets' it, sure, he gets what his initial media craziness means in terms of the internet, massmedia, controlling attention, memes, etc., but if last night is any indication, it seems he's more than content just pounding on the same ~4-7 decent soundbites he 'magically' spit out in his first couple manic interviews. #tigerblood #winning #vaticanassassinwarlock #etc, these were great. You and your people obviously understood their 'potential'. You just haven't figured out their shelf-lives.

UPDATE: Redemption?
